Welcome!
We are five women from Northern Illinois University's Women's Studies class and would love to show you some interesting information about beauty norms and how it can impact everyday REAL women. Beauty norms can affect women on a regular basis by making them feel like they are not "beautiful enough". Society tells us what is beautiful through many different ways by using cultural norms, history and through the media/pop culture. Beauty norms can lead to eating disorders, plastic surgery addiction and depression. Beauty norms are not a recent matter either, they have been relevant in history for many decades.
We had some help with our campus partner, S.I.S.T.E.R.S., which is an organization that promotes sisterhood, and support culturally, spiritually, emotionally and academically for women around campus. It is important to acknowledge beauty norms exist in our society, but to also to fight back! Every woman is different and we should be heard.
